Egypt is one of the most exclusive fragrances created by Albert Fouquet. In 1935, Albert decided to fulfil a promise made to visit Ahmed, a childhood friend, thereby accomplishing a dream: Albert was fascinated by ancient Egyptian culture and while visiting his friend in Egypt he enjoyed lengthy tours of the Great Pyramid of Giza, as well as the temples of Luxor and Hatshepsut. The visit was also an opportunity to travel to the birthplace of perfume. He wanted to research the essences that have been in use for thousands of years. He was also curious to discover what was in those extraordinarily aromatic jars offered to the gods to protect the pharaohs, or in the scents used to satisfy the revered Cleopatra. This wonderful visit was enriched by the impressive garden of Ahmed’s villa, containing dozens of flowers that were unknown to Albert. Overwhelmed by new sensations and unable to extend his already lengthy visit, Albert planned a second trip four months later with the express intention of creating a unique perfume. After several weeks of intense work in the villa of Ahmed, Albert Fouquet selected the final details of a new formula after returning to his chateau in Paris. Creamy, bright and luminous, Egypt is an intoxicating, sun-infused reverie. Lavender is electric at the top of this scent, casting a fruity (rather than frigid) shadow over the entire composition. Moss’ austere beauty is enlivened by lemon’s lightweight, floral energies while cardamom and nutmeg weave a sparkling web of spice throughout this scent which is somewhat invisible yet indispensable to the lofty, lively maintenance of Egypt. Sandalwood’s vivid green is simultaneously powder and solid, an effect that functions as backbone and frisson simultaneously. Patchouli reiterates the ripe intensity of lavender, adding a pungent dimension that recalls incense burning under the heat of high noon.
