L’eau du Trente-Quatre is a sophisticated, versatile fragrance reinterpretation of the original 34 Boulevard Saint Germain. This incarnation captures the essence of Diptyque’s original boutique, during the warmer months, when greener notes supercede the warm, more sensual scents of winter. Bitter orange is a dry breeze that blows through this shop like a pied piper of citrus. Soon notes of floral lemon, aromatic, sweet verbena, and sizzling, burnished grapefruit pour forth engineering a cool embrace, from the second we step through 34’s doors. Once we’ve absorbed this citric embrace, we’re greeted by a second frontier of refreshment. Lavender is a fruity yet icy treat, almost like frozen, wild grapes it scintillates and soothes all at once. Juniper is a bittersweet offset to terse, spicy nutmeg, and we imagine an invigorating old fashioned cocktail of navy gin with just a shaving of this spice atop. Cinnamon’s heat is happily absorbed by crisp birch leaves, although piquant geranium prevails thereafter, adding a playful shimmer to the layered simplicity of this scent. Tuberose is a soft and subtle incarnation of itself in this summery setting, contributing a fruity sweetness and sunny warmth. Cedar echoes tuberose’s sunbeam effect with its dulcet smolder, which bleeds into the shimmering fumes of patchouli, incense, and labdanum.
